A man who attempted to rob a Bustleton smoke shop at gunpoint but abandoned the effort after saying it wouldn’t help his daughter’s transplant is wanted by police.

The suspect, described as a heavyset white man, entered the 1 Stop Smoke Shop, 10103 Verree Road, just before 11 a.m. on Monday, July 8. Police said he pointed a gun at the cashier and said: “Open the register or I’ll shoot you.”

According to authorities, the employee popped open the register, and, after grabbing the money, the man said: “You know what, I’m not gonna do it to you. It’s not gonna help my daughter’s transplant.” He left the money in the cash drawer, police said.

The man fled the scene in a red car.
